I took part in my very first styled shoot! I watch Joy Michelle Photography on YouTube and she always talks about how important it is to take part in styled shoots to build your portfolio and collaborate with other vendors in the community. So, I found this one in Homestead, Florida where the event planner & stylist was @pink__wasabi.
I didn't know what to expect in terms of organisation etc but I actually really enjoyed myself and will do more in the future. I feel like I learnt a lot from the other photographers and made some great connections. Also, it was my first time photographing smoke bombs and I am tempted to use these again in future photoshoots!
Pink Wasabi did an amazing job organising such a beautiful styled shoot. There were 5 stations and 5 groups. We had around 30 mins at each station to photograph the different parts of the wedding. There was the couple, the invitations, the cake, the table, the ceremony and then afterwards we all got together and photographed the couple at a table and then with the smoke bombs.
The only thing I didn't love was being in the first group to photograph the couple. I felt a little thrown in the deep end and I didn't feel confident enough to pose the models how I wanted, or to get up close. My favourite couple photos came when I photographed the couple while they were posing for another group. This meant that I didn't really get any amazing shots of them looking straight into my camera. Or close ups of the bride with her bouquet etc.
This was my fault, but it has given me something to work on for future styled shoots. I paid the same amount as everyone else there, so I need to be more selfish & vocal and get the shots I need. Overall though, I am happy. I think I got some beautiful photographs that show my style and that I can use on Instagram etc.
